When we tell you that recessed spotlights are popular, what we are really saying is that they are everywhere, really everywhere. Shops, living rooms, kitchens, dressing rooms, corridors, living rooms, bathrooms, ... indoors, there is hardly any environment where they cannot be used. Although they are so widespread, they remain little known and the variety of solutions they offer is often poorly exploited. Appreciated for their luminous efficiency and easy and durable installation, they offer a great capacity for adaptation. In short, there is a recessed spot for every situation.

In the shop window, LED technology can be used to enhance items with an attractive light tone, while in the home, a soothing light will help create a warm atmosphere. To name but a few, adjustable spotlights, downlights or concrete recessed lights are among the solutions for bringing a modern touch to the interior thanks to an elegant and discreet format, integrated directly into the ceiling.

The number of different models is both the strength and weakness of these lights. It's easy to get lost in the vast choice and unclear technical terms. Ledixa offers you an accessible guide to four common types of recessed LED spotlights.

4 planning solutions to create the perfect lighting for every architectural project with recessed spots

Recessed accent lighting

Recessed accent lighting

Designed to highlight what matters to you, accent lighting focuses attention on a particular object. Whether it's the centrepiece of your display case or your art collection, directional spotlighting will set it apart from everything else by emphasising its fine form. Also suitable for outdoor use, the outdoor versions have the same ability to enhance architectural details (columns, windows, gates, frames) while maintaining an excellent performance to energy ratio.

General recessed lighting

General recessed lighting

Recessed spotlights for general lighting are intended to improve visual comfort with the most uniform lighting possible. The angle of aperture of their light beam is greater than that of their counterparts (40 to 90 degrees), allowing them to illuminate large areas evenly. Easy to install, they can be recessed directly into a false ceiling. However, we advise you to consult a team of professionals beforehand to help you optimise your space.

Concrete recessed lighting

Concrete recessed lighting

Rain or shine, the concrete recessed luminaire is built into the wall and can withstand the vagaries of the weather. With an IP67 rating for optimum protection against water and dust, it is the ultimate in outdoor lighting. It is also available as an indoor version to meet all architectural requirements. The concrete recessed luminaire is popular thanks to its flush-mounted box, which allows it to be installed directly in a slab, and is therefore particularly suited to the new Swiss construction methods.

Enhancement of vertical walls

Enhancement of vertical walls

Wallwasher lighting - fun, isn't it? But not only that, as the name suggests, wallwasher spots bathe surfaces in light and thus reveal their special texture. Whether indoors or outdoors, this is achieved by embedding a spotlight flush with the wall, diffusing a homogeneous light parallel to the wall. Ideal for highlighting the richness of the materials, all you have to do is create real scenic effects in your own home with ease.

We answer your questions !

How to choose the type of reflector or optic ?

It all depends on the project, the requirements and the desired effect. We invite you, first of all, to distinguish which type of lighting you need for your project via our guide. The different types of lighting are described above (accent lighting, general lighting, etc.).

How to make a trimless installation?

The installation of a trimless spotlight consists of installing the spotlight directly into the false ceiling so that the collar is hidden. This way, the surface is smooth for an even effect.
Here is a short guide to this type of installation.

The steps of the installation

  1. Drilling with a hole saw system.
  2. Positioning the spotlight
  3. Fixing
  4. Covering
  5. Uniformity of the surface
  6. Painting of the surface
  7. Layout of the source
  8. Finished!

Which spotlight for wet spaces ?

We recommend the WETY 68 model from our Ledixa range, designed especially for this type of application (installation in showers, steam rooms, wet areas).

Technical data :
- IP20 / IP67
- 10W 350mA
- Beam angle 20° / 40° / 60
- LED 2700K / 3000K / 4000K
- Mirrored reflector
- Protective glass pane

Which colour temperature to choose?

It all depends on the materials used, but we prescribe a temperature of 3000K corresponding to a warm white for a classic residential application. An upstream analysis of the type of project remains the basis for good lighting planning and avoiding unpleasant surprises.
